Former prime minister Boris Johnson has insisted there is “no evidence at all” that he “intentionally or recklessly” misled the House of Commons over the “partygate” scandal.
Johnson made the claim in a statement to the Commons privileges committee, which has been investigating whether Johnson misled parliament about government parties held during coronavirus restrictions.
The committee has the power to recommend sanctions, including suspension from the Commons. The process could potentially trigger a by-election in Johnson’s Uxbridge and South Ruislip constituency.
This is a developing story.
